Words Words Words

Words, Words, Words is a no holds barred, work in progress, scratch extravaganza.

Here we offer writers, the opportunity to submit work for the stage with slots of up to ten minutes each.

The most interesting, engaging and challenging scripts will be read out by actors after a day’s rehearsal.

The work can be brand new, a bit rough, rather unpolished – but the emphasis is on development of work-in- progress…birthing, gasping, whooping to life and with bigger things in mind for the future.

The next  Words Words Words will take place on Friday 12 December 2014.

For more information and how to submit please visit our online submissions page Submittable. Submissions will close at midnight on Monday 3 November.

Page to Stage – Calling new writers

Artists Anonymous are delighted to present Page to Stage. The next event is on Wednesday 26 November 2014 – and we’d like to hear from theatre scriptwriters!

Page to Stage is a script development and networking event for London theatre-makers. We’re looking for writers to submit a 10-minute script (or excerpt of a longer script) to be rehearsed by actors and directors, then shared and given feedback by an industry panel. It’s a great way to try out new material, see your work performed, receive feedback and advice from the experts, and create useful working relationships with other theatre-makers.

Once a final list of four scripts has been chosen, calls are sent out for actors and directors to take part.

Submitting your script is easy: Complete the attached form (see link at bottom of post), and send it with your script to:

Courting Drama – IdeasTap

After the success of their first Playwright for Courting Drama brief, Theatre Renegade would like to invite submissions from writers to take part in next year’s Courting Drama project. The chosen piece will  be workshopped with the help of Theatre Renegade’s dramaturg; it will then be showcased at Southwark Playhouse’s Courting Drama event in January with a professional director and cast. Previous writers and directors who have taken part in the project have worked with theatres and companies like the Lowry, Royal Court Theatre, and Punchdrunk.

Theatre Renegade are looking for a piece between 12 and 20 minutes in length; this can be either an extract from a longer piece or an entire short play. They believe very strongly in the idea of collaboration and would like the chosen writer to be available to attend some rehearsals in London, dates to be decided by the director and writer, and to the show of Courting Drama itself on the 25th January, 2015.

Staffordshire Hoard Playwriting Competition

In Summer 2015 the New Vic is producing a festival of plays inspired by the Staffordshire Hoard

The Staffordshire Hoard:
The largest collection of Anglo-Saxon gold and silver metalwork ever found, anywhere in the world, it was discovered in a field near Lichfield, in Staffordshire, England on 5 July 2009. It consists of more than 3,500 items that are nearly all martial or warlike in character.

We are inviting writers to submit plays written from the point of view of someone associated with an item or items from the Staffordshire Hoard: the craft worker who made it, the person who owned it, the one who buried it…

The play should be no longer than five minutes and written to be performed by one actor. The character can be modern or historical, fact or fiction, but the play must be presented in the form of a dramatic monologue.
