SCBWI – Undiscovered voices

The Society of Children’s Book Writers and Illustrators (SCBWI) British Isles will once again help fresh, new voices in children’s literature – both writers and illustrators – find agents, publishers and ultimately readers through its Undiscovered Voices project.

Submissions will be accepted online at www.undiscoveredvoice.com between 1st July to 16thAugust 2015. There is no submissions’ fee, but only un-agented and unpublished members of SCBWI living in the UK and Europe (writing in the English language) are eligible.

Bath Children’s Novel Award

  • The winner of The Bath Children’s Novel Award 2015 will receive a cheque for£1,000 plus our Minerva trophy, designed by Jessica Palmer 
  • Novels can be in any genre for children who are able to read for themselves or young adult readers
  • There are no minimum or maximum word count restrictions, however as a guide, we recommend 6-10,000 for a chapter book, 40-60,000 for middle grade and 50-70,000 words for YA (or longer for fantasy novels)
  • Entrants should not have had a novel, for any age group, accepted for publication by a traditional publishing house. Independently published novelists are eligible
  • Submissions should include (up to) the first 3,000 words of your novel plus a one page synopsis and separate covering page
  • Your novel extract should be double-spaced (apart from the synopsis which should be single-spaced) in a size 12 font and include the title. Do NOT include your name anywhere on the extract
  • On your covering page, state your name, address, telephone number, email address, novel title, genre, extract and full length word counts and method of payment
  • Hard copy submissions should be typed on single-sided A4 paper.  If you require an acknowledgement for a paper submission, please enclose a SAE
  • The entrance fee is £20 per novel. You may enter as many novels as you wish.
  • Longlisted entrants will be announced early November 2015 and asked to submit their full manuscript for the final judging stages
  • Shortlisted entrants will be announced late November 2015 and listed on our site. The winner of The Bath Children’s Novel Award 2015 will be announced inDecember 2015
