Playwrights' Competition Calendar

Avoidance Tactics

Filed under: Random Musings — Gina @ 22:42

So, I finished the first draft of my children’s book last week which is very good (news, not necessarily the writing) and then managed to come up with an idea for the radio play I have to write by mid July which is also good (see note above). Putting finger to keyboard is a different matter so instead I’ve alphabetised my ‘”Where to send your script” page because I was adding Hampstead Theatre who like new writing and realised how random it was. To cut a long story even longer this all came about because I was trying to Cyber-stalk Laura Wade because I saw and loved her ‘Alice’ last night, but was left feeling very inadequate as a writer because I thought her adaptation was soooooo good, and my attempt with ‘A Little Princess’ wasn’t even worthy of licking her script’s boots (if scripts wore boots. Mind you, if any script wer to wear boots I’m sure it would be hers.)

If anyone has an opportunity they have or have heard about please do send me the link in a comment and I will add it to the calendar.

I’ve added some stuff too, but I can’t remember what because I’ve had a couple of glasses of wine. It wasn’t my fault. My strimmer ran out of cord so I had to come back and get some more but then someone opened wine.

Read the comments below (or July) for an opportunity from Heavy Weather Theatre Company who are looking for a ten minute play, with minimal tech requirements, and with a same-sex relationship at its core for a night at the Park Theatre in August.

Heavy Weather are now accepting submissions for our night at the Park Theatre in August. We are looking for 2 writers to join our existing team of 4.

Your play should be ten minutes long, with minimal tech requirements, and with a same-sex relationship at its core. We’re looking for exciting, dynamic writing that would work well in the Park’s studio theatre.

We want to see on stage the diversity of relationships that exist in our lives. We want same-sex relationships to be explored in theatre in as much complexity and depth as heterosexual relationships. At this moment in British theatre and in British society – legislation for same-sex marriage has not yet been passed, though the bill has been voted in favour of – we feel that there is an inequality which we can address.

Please submit your play to by 10th July. Alternatively, you can submit an example of a previous short play with a detailed synopsis of your idea for this.

    Heavy Weather presents:

Six new short plays exploring same-sex relationships

  2. Why is it there is someone ALWAYS opening a bottle of wine when ones strimmer goes funny?

    • I don’t know, but I’ve always felt it would be rude to ask and even ruder to turn down the wine. X
