41 pages does not a play make

Just a brief (and rather dull) post because lots of new stuff keeps popping up and I can’t ignore it any more even though I’m not even half way through my mozaic script. Aaaarrrggghhh!!!!

Two competitions from the Theatre Centre: the Brian Way Award for Best New Play written for young audiences. This year’s award is for a new play which was professionally produced between 1 October 2011 and 31 January 2013.

And the Adrienne Benham Award – a  £2,000 seed commission, to support the work of a promising playwright interested in exploring the Theatre for Young Audiences (TYA) sector to develop brilliant new plays for young people, but who has little experience in this field.

The Bread and Roses Theatre company are looking for short pieces for their next platform by february 24th, and they also want full-length plays for further projects throughout 2013. They are currently accepting ongoing submissions for full length plays (no deadline) but you are encouraged to submit as soon as possible.

Newsjack‘s back with its first show on Thursday. There’s a blog post HERE by one of the producers about how the show is made.

You might also be interested in The Show what You Wrote: BBC Radio 4’s new sketch show. Each episode is themed around a specific genre, and it’s all written by you. This is a showcase for new comedy writing, an opportunity for you to get involved in creating a show that sounds different from any other sketch show out there.

The themes for each episode are:

  1. Thriller / suspense
  2. Kitchen sink drama
  3. Science fiction & horror
  4. Documentary
  5. Historical / costume drama.

The closing date for the whole series is March 4th.

Last but by no means least there’s an interesting article from America  HERE about how hard it is for female playwrights.
