Playwrights' Competition Calendar

Newsjack’s Back.

Filed under: New Competitions — Gina @ 11:04

I don’t know why I’m getting excited – they never choose anything of mine and I’m frigging hilarious. Anyway, Newsjack is BBC Radio 4 Extra’s topical sketch show which seeks to comically scrutinise the news, views and issues of the day. It looks to be irreverent and satirical, a kind of younger brother to the more “grown-up” Radio 4 topical shows like The Now Show and The News Quiz.
It is a showcase for new comedy writing so anyone can submit material. They accept sketches and short jokes every week of the six week run. The best submissions will make it into the 28 minute show.

First show is next Thursday (15th). The deadlines for Episode One are as follows:
For sketches, it is 12pm on Monday 12th September 2011.
For one-liners it is 5pm on Tuesday 13th September.

OTB Productions are still looking for short plays for their regular new writing night Descent. They run 2 different types of events – an under 26 writers night (the next will be at Rich Mix London on the 1st December and a night for writers of any age (the next date to be confirmed, hopefully October/November) Please email to submit a play and state if you are are under/over 26.

There’s also a call out for 10 minute plays for a new writing event at the Southwark Playhouse in October called Taleblazers. (Guidelines link at the bottom of that page) Closing date for this is September 19th.

In Canada Bottle Tree Productions are doing a one-act play competition. Attendance in person is not obligatory! First Prize $1,000, Second Prize $250, Third Prize $100, but there is an entry fee. Closing date is November 30th.
